Locked in.

Only because I’m a blogger would I have been thinking the ENTIRE time that this was going on, that it would make for a somewhat humorous blog. Ok. So maybe it won’t be that humorous, but I laughed. After I got done semi-panicking.

Hubby is still technically connected to his unit in Florida. He is at what they call a temporary duty station. So…that means that all of our stuff is in storage in Florida because that is where the Coast Guard is going to come to move us. I’m shooting a retirement ceremony tomorrow and a family portrait session tomorrow evening, so while we were coming down here, I brought a bunch of stuff that we weren’t really using down to stick in storage.

My mom, Little Man and I made it to Florida in great time, and went straight to the unit to unload the car so that we didn’t have to try to do it tomorrow and we could spend our day shopping relaxing and taking it easy. We drove right by the front entrance…whoever was working inside saw us come in. Not to mention hubby and I pay extra every month for 24 hour access to our unit so that we don’t have to worry with hours and whatnot. We can come and go as we please and when the time comes to move, we aren’t constrained by time restrictions.

So we get there, unload, go back to the car and are on our merry little way to go grab supper. The gate won’t unlock. And won’t unlock. And won’t unlock. Eight or ten times I try to open the gate. It. won’t. budge. I keep getting the “Access Denied” message over and over and over again. Little man {thankfully} was in a pretty chipper mood and no one was starving, but we ended up sitting there for about 45 minutes waiting on someone to come let us out.

I called the 1-800 number that was on the back of my key card…I got punched through 4 times and never got an answer. My mom finally just picked the phone up and called 911. They sent a Sheriff out to open the gate for us. It took him a good 10 minutes to get his code to work. It was hilarious. Locked inside a U-Haul unit. I thought I was going to have to start rationing out M&M’s and go unpack sheets in our unit-thinking we would have to sleep on our mattress and camp out until the next morning.

Fortunately, however, we managed to get it resolved. And I will be sending an email to U-Haul…inquiring as to why my 24 hour access unit was denied.
