Fresh Year, Fresh Start

Run the Earth...Watch the Sky.
I am so excited that I ran across "Run the Earth, Watch the Sky" this past week. What a wonderful, uplifting and encouraging site for Christian Women looking to enhance and grow their walk with our King and find some amazing Christian women to do it with.

Right now, they are hosting a little blogging festival all about making a Fresh Start this 2010 year. Over the course of 3 weeks, a host of lovely Christian ladies are opening their hearts up to share thoughts and encouragement on developing a Fresh Start on our Spiritual Lives, our Marriages and the way that we Parent our Children. At the end of the week {on Fridays'} they open up the links for the readers to head over and post their thoughts and goals for the coming year. This first week has been all about our Spiritual Lives. Today, we are to talk about what our goals are and what we hope to accomplish this year. I encourage you head over and check it out. There are a lot of free online tools and great ideas and advice from women just like us, just striving to be all that they have been called to be.
__________

I love starting over. I love the fresh, clean slate and the chance to move away from the past and begin all over again. While we receive this kind of freshness and newness every single moment with Christ, it's the mentality that the New Year brings that offers some glimmer of light for making things better than they were the year before.

While I haven't set a pile of goals and resolutions for 2010, my Spiritual Life is at the top of my priority list. In the past I have learned that life is just so much easier and so much more enjoyable when my life is right with God. When I am spending time with Christ every single day, when I am praying and studying and learning and dwelling in the Lord, things just seem and feel easier. I don't worry. I don't stress. I just feel better about everything. And thanks to "Run the Earth, Watch the Sky" and the things they are doing and tools are offering I feel like I can take another step forward toward the goals I am wanting to reach.

This year, my goals involve 4 things:

Bible Study & Scripture Memorization
Journaling
Prayer
 and Blessing others.

I would love to finish the entire Bible this year, but I'm not going to push myself to do that. If I do, I am afraid that I would read through it just for the sake of saying that I have done it and I would miss things. Instead, I'm just going to take it one book at a time. Spend as much time as I can reading and studying until I finish that Chapter. I have a Study Bible with lots of notes and concordances so I do a lot of flipping to other books and take a lot of notes. But that's how you learn and I can already tell I am getting more out of it.

I also want to start memorizing scripture. There are a lot of verses that I know are in the Bible, but I can't remember exactly where they are. I can tell you the scripture, but if you ask me to find it, the only way I could do it is if I googled it. This year I want to focus on memorizing important scriptures so that I am equipped with the word of God no matter where I go.

Prayer is a big struggle for me. I just don't take the time to slow down and really pray the way that I should. I know how important communication with Christ is, and I want so badly to be at the point in my prayer life that I am in constant communication with God all throughout my day. I want it to become second nature to turn to him with everything, to ask him and stop to listen for his answer whenever I need to know something or have a problem I need help with. I admire the women who do that. They have a grace about them that I can't describe. My goal for the year is to spend intense time in prayer with God every morning as soon as I wake up before I begin my day, and intense time in prayer with God every night before I fall asleep. I want to learn to stop and pray whenever I need it during the day and be able to communicate with him all the time.

I keep a prayer/spiritual journal where I keep my prayer request, personal prayers, praises, and study/sermon notes in. I love my journal. I love looking back at the prayers God has answered and seeing how he is working in my life. This year, I want to make it more consistent. An every day thing. I want to branch out and start praying for indepth, deep and meaningful prayers. I want to learn to pray scripture [which goes back to scripture memorization].

Finally, I want to become a blessing to those around me. I want to be an encouragement and a friend to those who need one. I want to become a better listener and a better prayer warrior for those I come in contact with. I hope to do this through personal friendships and relationships and through this blog. I hope that by writing [something I am deeply passionate about] that God would speak through me and that my experiences would encourage others and lift hearts when they need it. I have a deep love and passion for helping others who struggle and deal with the things that I do. And I am hoping and praying that God gives me the opportunity to use what he's given me to bring glory to his kingdom.

I am very excited to see what changes come my way this year spiritually. Our pastor said in his sermon this past Wednesday that we should wake up every single day in a different place than we were the day before. I want to wake up every single morning and be one step closer to my King than I was the night before when I went to bed.

Don't hesitate to hold me accountable. I'm hoping that over time this blog will develop into a strong community where we can lift one another up and be there for each other. I do encourage you to head over the "Fresh Year, Fresh Start" home and read what they have to offer. You will be blessed and you won't be disappointed.

You have a lovely blog! I am doing much like you are with reading through my Bible. I'm doing a chapter or two a day and attempting to uncover "new-to-me" truths that apply to my daily struggles.

I see you're an Alabama fan. While I grew up in VA, I am Texas-born, but still offer you congratulations on the big win last night! :)

Courtney,
I am in total agreement with everything you wrote. I want to read the Bible through, and hope to be able to read it in a year, but it might take me a lot longer. I started in the middle of both Testaments, just because. . .I think that must be what God wants me to read right now.

My son walked in and asked me what version you have Psalm 119:11 on your blog, because it is in the future tense, and our versions are in the past tense.

We have lived in Texas, but my husband was rooting for Alabama, because his Grandpa was born there.
Congratulations!
I really like your blog!

A prayer journal is a great way to hold your own self accountable. You realize if you haven't written in it in a week or two.
