Arts & Crafty

Good morning!

Sorry I didn't around to posting yesterday. I started to, but things got insanely busy and I just never finished my post. It's still sitting on my computer as a draft. Something I will get around to finishing at some point today. I had the ever so dreaded "yearly exam" yesterday morning, and that in itself is more than enough to deal with in one day. Yuck. When got home from the doctor, my house needed tidying and I had TWO Sunday's and a few weekdays worth of coupons that needed clipping. So I sat down with those and clipped my little heart out for about an hour and a half while hubby and I watched "Gifted Hands" with Cuba Gooding Jr. [A fantastic movie about faith for anyone interested]. Then, my friend Amie hosted a Ladies Craft Night at her house last night. What a Blast that was! {And a much needed time with just the girls...something none of us do very often.} We had a good turn out and I got to work on something that I had been wanting to get together for a looooong time: Organizing my Coupons.

Like I said, I clipped two Sunday's worth of coupons yesterday and my el-cheapo $2 coupon holder I bought from Wal-Mart just wasn't cutting it. I had way too many coupons and couldn't even see most of them. Getting ready to go to the grocery store and making a shopping list was an utter pain because I was literally having to pull everything I had out and seperate them. And forget finding something on sale and realizing you had a coupon for it. Nah. Not happening. I read this post over at my friend Kelli's blog about a coupon book and decided that is what would work best for me.

So yesterday, before heading to Amies, I set out to Target with a mission to find the perfect coupon book. I wasn't wanting to spend the money on the actual photo holders because I wasn't sure how many I would use, and the last thing I wanted was to get started and then not have enough stuff to finish. Instead, I found this:

An ever so "plain Jane" black 3-ring photo album with PLENTY of pages. Bonus? It was only $3.99.

I bought a small pack of "ABC" scrapbook stickers and set out  to Amies house, prepared to organize my 'little black book.' Little did I know that Amie had something entirely new to introduce me to.

Oh yes. The wonder of all crafting wonders. I am in LOVE with this stuff.
So now, armed with the tools to fix up my little black coupon book, I had a mission. Mod-Podge it up.
And I did...

A few of papers of choice...

The completed cover...waiting to dry.

The letters I originally purchased to stick on the cover...now with matching paper for added cuteness

And the back.

All of my coupons are broken down into very descriptive categories for easy finding. I have them placed 3 or 4 per photo slot so that I can see all of them. I have my soonest to expire on the front and the latest to expire in the back. I'm also working on the Master Grocery List to go in the front and I think I'm going to go through and make a list of all of the coupons that I have and write down the experiation date, just in case they get pushed to the back where I can't see them.

I've learned successful couponing is all about organization and I feel like I tackled that step last night. And we've decided that we are going to make our craft night an every 2-week thing. My next project? This.  A Family Rules Canvas. My friend Tiffany made hers last night and Amie, too OCD to work amongst a bunch of people {LOL}, is working on hers this week. I think they are too cute and I would love to have one to hang in our living room or kitchen. I'm going to spend the next two weeks gathering some fabric and paper that I like and coming up with our rules. Any suggestions? ::Sigh:: Mod-Podge may just be my new favorite thing.

Have a wonderful day!

Oh that coupon book is so cute! I love being organized and doing it in a cute way! I checked out the family rules thing. I love it!! I am putting that one on my to do list! Very Very adorable!

I need to schedule my "yearly exam" too. I figured though after having a baby it wouldn't be so bad any more! But maybe I got some modesty back within the past year because you sure lose most of it when you are pregnant!

Good job on the coupon book. That is a very good idea to stay organized. Unfortunetly up in Canada we dont get coupons in flyers, which sucks :(...in fact we get that maybe except for Michaels craft store. But I may make something like this for my receipes!! =)

That is a really great idea! Cute and functional. I am inspired...now all I need is that ever-elusive "time" to beautify organization.

This is such an amazing idea! I'll defintely have to make myself one of those. The whole reason I have a hard time with coupons is the organizing! I hate it when I have to pull everything out just to find what I'm looking for! Thanks for this!

I also have some awards for you!

I love it! I'm excited to see the Family Rules thing when you make it! Question- would you mind sharing your categories? I'd love to see them- I need to make mine more broken-down but I'm not sure where to start. :)

That is gorgeous! I have a binder like that, too, and it is ever so handy! Mine's not nearly as cute, though.

I love doing things with podge. I recently took a whole bunch of old photos and combined them with some lace and some buttons and other things and made a love frame of those I love!

I'm jealous of you all, though, living so close to the Amies! I'll have to visit you sometime.

Visit To Love, Honor and Vacuum today!

Oooh, very cute! I also have one of those little things for organizing coupons that my mom got me. I'm not great at looking through the stuff we get in the mail and using coupons but it's something I'm going to try to get better at this year. Maybe soon I will need a binder like yours...
